Helmut Lang, A/W 2000 Classic Charcoal Grey Painter Jeans

The ‘Painter Jean' was introduced in Lang’s S/S 1997 collection and is by far one of his most celebrated denim creations. Besides being also shown on the S/S 1998 runway (pictured), the iconic jeans were also seen on the cover of New Order's 2001 album 'Get Ready', art directed by Peter Saville and worn by actress Nicolette Krebitz. Furthermore, apart from being hailed as one of Helmut Lang’s most noticeable pieces, they have since been re issued by the brand bringing them to a new height in popularity once again.

Much like the almost all Helmut Lang jeans, the detailing is inspired by Levi's 1947 501XX model, featuring a traditional five-pocket design reinforced with metal rivets. In this classic pair from the the A/W 2000 collection, we see a medium weight, overdyed white denim which has recieved special vintage treated to give a faded grey tint. The paint splashes throughout the jeans have been screen printed using a mix of rubberised white and grey ink. Finished off with flat fell seams and silver branded hardware.
