Helmut Lang, A/W 1999
Platinum Leather Astro Biker Trousers

For his AW 1999 collection, Séance de Travail, Helmut Lang formed a collection to dress the approaching new century. Helmut Lang produced one of his most recognisable and iconic set of designs in his career. Inspired by astronaut uniforms, motorcycle safety gear, and rave subcultures, Lang created a deep-rooted, elegant, and stand out the contemporary universe that has since then inspired a long list of designers.

Here we have a fine example of the signature biker trousers from ‘99, constructed in a heavy lamb leather which has been distressed to give it pronounced grains with beautiful texture variations. The leather has been coated in a subtle silver shine with a hue of the leathers original beige colour showing though. The fit is slim straight through the leg with an intricate three-dimensional silhouette, the waist created without using a separate panel to offer a sleeker look. The standout knee detail is completed with structured, quilted panels and darts to allow for optimum comfort. The ankles are finished with metal zippers and all hardware has a polished silver finish. The back features two zipper pockets and adjustable waist straps. Finally, the interior features straps for hanging for leather preservation, a change pocket that is not visible from the outside (a detail exclusive to A/W 99) and lined with a luxurious viscose satin.
