Raf Simons, A/W 2004-05 ‘Waves’ Patched Turtleneck

The A/W 04-05 collection from Raf was named 'Waves', it went on to explore the idea of conscious confinement and wilful enclosure, taking reference from Wave cultures, cultures of rave waves and ocean waves. Formatting the idea of having one's eyes closed, alone with music, living only inside the music, happily disappearing into the vortex of sounds and emotions.

An iconic piece from the almost unseen ‘Waves’ collection, constructed out of wool and elastane the materiel is intentionally pilled to create a worn look. The middle of the piece features Iconic patches from graphics used across the rest of the collection such as “EXILES EVERYWHERE WE GO”, “TEST WAVES”, and the paisley Ying/Yang all sewn on individually. Each patch is intentionally distressed and has a “dirt” effect ubiquitously applied throughout each graphic.
