Raf Simons, A/W 2001-02 “Riot Riot Riot” Striped Wool Patch Turtleneck

From one of Simons's arguably most recognisable and iconic collections, the F/W 2001 Riot Riot Riot collection came after his 1-year hiatus from his namesake brand. With a new direction, this collection was defined by political commentary, dramatic proportions, and a working-class point of view. Now over twenty years on the nuances of the collection rings even louder.

Alongside the patched bomber this sweater stands out as one of the pillar pieces from the collection. Coming in multiple colours in the show, this colour, however, is far more scarce than its counterparts. The collection hit deep sales upon release but in recent years their value has been recognised along with Raf's early work as some of the most defining menswear of our time.

Featuring a raw edge striped beige/brown wool constructed with a short turtleneck and patches across the jumper featuring; David Bowie, Bauhaus’s Peter Murphy, Police reports on the missing Richey Edwards of Manic Street Preachers, Christane. F movie poster and Sonic Youth, Suicide, and Black Flag concert posters.

The importance of this jumper cannot be understated as this among other moments in his career is a symbolic token of his transcendence of the fashion industry into something more akin to a modern artist.
