Maison Martin Margiela, S/S 2006 Denim Square Toe Boots
The square toe boot by Martin Margiela was certainly one of the biggest statement pieces created for the menswear line. They were introduced in 1999, when the men’s line began, and it has since become a staple. Thereafter, a wide variety of colours and fabrics have been used on this shape throughout the seasons that follow.
This particular pair, released under the Line 10, is one of the rarest iterations put out of the house. The boot upper is completely made from an indigo-dyed denim. The shape constitutes of a wide yet sleek shaft, a v-stitch construction on each inner, and, of course, the prominent square toe. The sole construction often gets overlooked, as an irregularly placed layer construction which creates heel irregularities intended by the Maison. This represents a key detail that showcases Margiela’s design ethos. Overall, a must-have item for any collection, with increasing contemporary popularity.
