Maison Martin Margiela, S/S 2005 Reconstructed Long-sleeve
Martin’s menswear, since the very beginning - in 1999 - seemed to showcase garments which are considered regular pieces, but with also the most endearing attention to detail. The detail can be easily missed by the untrained eye which is part of what makes his work so intriguing.
This long-sleeve was created by using two vintage military-grade singlets and simply cutting them straight down the middle and then pairing the two sides artisanally. Each piece individually shows it’s own fading and wear which further adds to the Maison’s reconstructive theme. Martin and his team cleverly chose different sized pieces to allow for an imperfect alignment showing the reconstruction element further.
