Maison Martin Margiela, S/S 1998 Flat Collection T-shirt

“When not worn these pieces are totally flat,” read the words at the back of a stage, on which men in white lab coats presented clothing on hangers as if at an auction. Spring ’98 involved geometry, specifically how to make two-dimensional garments that would lie perfectly flat when not on a three-dimensional body.

The item for sale here is a fine example of the Maison taking a regular basic, a t-shirt, and creating an alluring design twist. Constructed in a way in which when not worn the garment lays completely flat, done so by the arm holes for the sleeves facing front on with the back of the t shirt extended in length too allow the pattern to take shape. Manufactured by miss Deanna in a cotton/elastane blend to accommodate the wearer.
