Maison Martin Margiela, A/W 2003-04 Leather Overshirt

Martins men's line began after being presented in October 1998 for the Spring-Summer 1999 collection, setting the tone for what was to come. Showcasing raw finished designs, customised jeans and revisiting the incredible use of the Trompe L’oeil effect. The seasons to follow all followed a similar set of ‘rules’, staying true to the Maison’s vision whilst producing garments that shaped men's fashion as we know it and the A/W 03-04 collection was no exception. Although not featured in the lookbook, this item finds itself perfectly among the artisanal leather waistcoats, reworked denim and biker influenced styling.

A wonderfully constructed overshirt almost jacket like, in soft but durable calfskin leather. Features include a button snap closure down the front alongside two chest pockets, one of which has been reversed to the inside. Further detail includes reversed snap button cuffs and some incredible panelling details on the front chest and back.
