This bomber from Miyake’s A/W 1996 collection is arguably the most sought after and recognisable piece; not only from this season, but the Japanese designer’s output since 1970. He was seen to take direct inspiration from the Western military issue MA-1 bomber jacket, reworking the shape to create a boxier and slightly oversized fit. The typical MA-1 details include the sleeve pocket, wind-flap, and tightly ribbed cuffs. Constructed in a textured nylon, with the most notable detail being a wide array of modular pockets seen to be placed on the front of the jacket, with one large rectangle-shaped pocket placed on the back. A hidden waterproof hood is also concealed around the collar of the neck.
