Hussein Chalayan, S/S 2005 ‘Act of Institution’ Reconstructed Waistcoat Crewneck Jumper

With his S/S 2005 collect Hussein Chalayan set out to redefine the notion of the garment in comparison to its normative values prescribed by the institutions, hence the collection name. Making comments throughout on the act of personifying natural phenomena such as the migration of nomadic people into the space of disembodied movement, which has been tamed by dining room etiquette, he says.

Seen here we have a half crewneck half waistcoat, constructed in the front in a jersey cotton material and in the back a cotton poplin waistcoat attaches the side and back neckline. Finished off with collection ‘ACT TO INSTITUTION’ embroidered on the chest.
