Hussein Chalayan, S/S 2002 Deconstrcuted Vest Top

Cursing, voodoo and superstition were the main themes for Hussein Chalayan’s Spring Summer 2002 Medea collection, with the main source of inspiration coming from a book called The Dictionary of Superstition. Chalayan balances high-concept experimentation with urban practicality in this show characterised by deconstructed panels, zippered layers and off-kilter silhouettes.

On the runway this asymmetric sleeveless top looked effortless, despite it’s elaborate seaming and detailing. The chiffon body makes it a versatile piece that can be layered or worn alone depending on the occasion. The button down fabric insert as well as the side straps makes it adjustable to suit the wearer and adds to the multifunctional nature of the piece. This item is a great example of Chalayan’s work; enlisting its spot as a unique and timeless piece for purchase.
