Helmut Lang, S/S 2003
Deconstructed Abstract Print Tank Top

The Spring/Summer 2003 collection from Helmut showed such a wide array of inspiration; from 1990s clubwear, Seditionaries styling and technical surfing gear to traditional tailoring. The major theme throughout was focused towards deconstructed, with many items seen having raw hems, unfinished seams, garments turned completed inside out and reconstructive panelling throughout.

This tank top from the S/S 2003 collection is constructed in a soft cotton jersey with a light stretch which allows for a slim fit. The front of the vest has been crafted using a complex selection of patchwork curved panels that have been screen-printed with black and blue ink by hand before their assembly. This creates an accentuated looked to the panels seen in the construction almost following the shape of the body on the wearer. Two rectangular panels have been attached on the hem on either side which sit on the wearer's thighs when worn.
