The Helmut Lang A/W 1989 presentation highlights an early stage in the designer’s career and sets the tone for later collections. This collection saw Lang reject the traditional structure of the fashion show, here he introduced his ‘Séance de Travail’ which saw him working sessions for both womenswear and menswear.
The Zipped Anorak is a unique item holding the essence of early Helmut Lang. The acetate material has a two-tone aesthetic giving it a 3D effect as opposed to a more ordinary 2D block colour fabric. The oversized fit of the jacket makes it a perfect layering piece as styled in the show. This piece embodies Helmut Lang’s work and is part of the permanent collection.
