Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, A/W 1997 Cropped Plaid Jacket
Rei’s A/W 1997 Homme Plus show saw models dressed in casual yet alluring garments with touches of plaid, checkered and striped patterns which were carefully chosen in a multitude of colours. The show which was to be held at Paris’ Musée National des Arts d’Afrique et d’Océanie, was also home to an iconic fashion moment, just days after his first show as creative director for Givenchy, Rei asked Alexander McQueen to open the show. McQueen agreed, and opened, wearing a large black sweater and roomy plaid pants not too far from his usual attire.
The jacket featured here is constructed in a woven checkered pattern throughout with a cuprous lining. The shape is cut cropped with padded shoulders offering a fantastic shape. The main feature is an alluring pocket detail at the bottom hem, whereby it is seemingly shorter than it ‘should’ be as if it were once a longer jacket. Further features include a slanted left chest pocket, tortoiseshell button closure with a hooked collar, button cuffs and a rounded collar.
